Last time I checked, congress has to write a bill, pass that bill, send it to the president for review and depending on his signing or vetoing it, make it law. "The outgoing administration" could not ram through any changes to Soc-Sec if it had wanted to. It will be the same way with the incoming administration's policy toward socialized programs. Not going to happen without congressional approval. But since we seem to have voted in a more liberal congress, we'll have to wait and see. Stop writing and start learning how government works and what this country was founded on: Rugged individualism and very limited government. Stop pushing a Socialist agenda.

Hi Stecey

The book does not "Bush bash", and I am not a Bush hater.
I am a Democrat, but I do support a post-partisan world.
Unfortunately the politics of the past eight years have made that possibility difficult.

I wrote the piece in 2004 as a partisan piece to support the election of Senator Kerry. That is not a sin. But what struck me was the that I had a feeling that we would have a housing meltdown and bailout, and social security was on the table to be privatized. If that had happened, the size of this financial crisis would have been unimaginably increased.

Read this from the post. This was the main point. Right now, we have the Treasury Department running the entire US banking system from a central command. We socialistically own banks, debt, risk, and insurance companies. This is not what I anticipated from a Republican administration, nor Democratic. We need to move past this and get this mess fixed. And yes, it DID happen on someone's watch:

The beauty of this scheme is simplistic: the government will have more control than ever, since it has regulatory power and plausible deniability for all failures, misdeeds and accountability. All they need to do is shrug, blame the ‘offenders’, change the concession, and pay for it with taxpayer money in the form of a bailout. Remember the S&L crisis of the 1980s and the plundering called the Resolution Trust Corporation? Or better, the current disaster in waiting, Fannie Mae, which threatens a real estate bubble that can bring down the economy, possibly requiring the largest government bailout in history.

That is why I posted this, and I urge you to read the section of the book titled: The Clear Vision: Beyond the Red and Blue Pill.

The days for partisanship are over, and we all hope for that to become a reality. The thesis of the book is to bring people together on issues we can ALL agree upon, despite differences in implementation. But the point is to get them implemented.

The point fo this piece is that the social contract and certain things are left better in government's hands, like the military, and privatization and deregulation without an adequate case, or for theoretical sake, can be damaging and have a host of uninteneded consequences.

So basically this is a book endorsement and a place for Bush haters. I was truly with you until the finger pointing started. And the Obama supporting started. Go ahead and feed the young your statistics. By the way, good luck with the book sales.
